The "Staple" Striped Dress

             It seems to me that every time I post a makeup look on this blog I end up promising to continue to post more when that just doesn't happen. I have to say this past year and a half I've really lacked an interest in makeup. Overtime I have accumulated lots of makeup and now I just don't feel a need to buy the new palettes and collections that come out. My interest has shifted from makeup to clothing and I have really grown to love trends and trying out different/risky pieces. Now I have decided to turn this blog into a primarily fashion blog because I find putting together different outfits much more exciting than applying makeup. I mean, I do have to dress myself everyday so it just depends on whether I document it or not.
          This outfit right here is definitely on the simple side. I am always on the lookout for basic dresses to add to my collection because I love having staple pieces that can be styled in various ways. Dresses are my favorite kind of staple piece because they're the top and pants combined making putting together an outfit even easier! I got so excited when I found this dress because I have been in search of one like this for so long. There are so many different outfit ideas that I can come up with using this dress but this was the one way I decided to wear it. A pair of boots and slouchy socks adds some edge to outfit, but for an alternative look a pair of  gladiator sandals would look equally as good(Most likely how I'll wear it next time).

Prom Makeup/Hair/Dress

      So my prom was in late April I believe and I decided to do my own makeup because why waste the money when I really don't have to? I did however have my hair done professionally because hair styling is definitely not my strong suit. As for my dress I'm not really a fan of the whole blinged out or poofy dresses so I was looking for something simple but different. Originally I found a dress by the brand For Love and Lemons that was Ivory and whimsicle looking but then it ran out of my size before I could order it so I had to look for something new. I stuck with the brand just because I loved all of their stuff and how the designs in stitching they create are so beautiful and intricate. I eventually found the dress I wore and I loved it and how unlike everyone else's dresses it would be. I debated for a little while whether I wanted the ivory version or the black one and I decided to go with the black one because I felt the ivory one may not look dressy enough for prom. I have to say I loved this dress and still continue to love it and I don't regret one bit wearing a dress that you wouldn't necessarily think prom when seeing it!
      For my makeup I decided to do a golden eye just because I thought it complimented my dress and I wasn't wanting anything too dramatic. I still wanted to look like myself! The pictures I took of just my eye was actually a practice run for my makeup because I wanted to make sure I actually liked what I planned on doing to myself. The eye makeup is a little different from the other picture of  y full face only because I added a bit more black in my outer corner on the day of Prom because I thought it looked better. One other difference is on the picture of my eye I used House of Lashes falsies in Noir Fairy and on prom I used the Ardell Natural lashes. I just decided I didn't want to heavy of a lash to wear that night because I'd be wearing them for a long period of time. Those were the only two differences in the pictures though!
      For my hair I had found a picture of Nicole Richie from some award show and I really loved how the hair styles gave her a braided headband out of her own hair and created a messy updo. When I went to the salon I showed the girl the picture and it turned out how I expected! I was really happy with how it came out and I think the updo was appropriate for the dress I wore because there was so much detail on the chest area. I wanted to show that off which is why I decided to have my hair up and I think it was the right decision.

Swarovski Eyes Pictorial



 

So after being inspired by @Dressyourface on Instagram I decided to take a shot at Swarovski eyes and I have to say they came out looking pretty nice. On the downside it was a bit of a pain having to individually apply each rhinestone because there were a couple times where the stone didn't stick to the adhesive on my eye and just fell off. In the end the Swarovski's ended up in the right position and opening my eye wasn't too challenging. For this eye I just randomly decided to do a pictorial because I thought this was one of those looks people might be curious on seeing the steps for. Now I did not provide a picture for every step just because after the rhinestones the rest of the makeup is pretty self-explanatory.

 

Step 1:

As always I applied primer to the eye and then slightly curled my eyelashes and applied mascara (I find that curling my eye lashes after eye liner ruins it so I prefer to do it as the first step in my makeup routine), Then I just draw a curved line in the crease of my eye with eye liner that goes along with the curve of my eye. Then I just blend it out a bit.

 

Step 2:

I apply a silver eye shadow all over my lid just so the empty spaces between the rhinestones are similar to the color of the stones and it's not as noticeable.

 

Step 3:

I apply my eye liner and blend it up towards the end of my cut crease. I then blend a little bit more with the silver in the outer portion of my eye.

 

Step 4: I apply lash glue in each spot I apply the rhinestones in.

Matte Plum Nails + Current Jewelry Faves

        For a while I only did my nails in the shape of an oval  because the shape was really flattering and feminine but I decided it was time for something different. On Instagram I always see Kylie Jenner's nails and they're just the basic square shape but with a lot of length and they look gorgeous which kind of made me want to try out longer nails. I have to say, they look good but they aren't easy to work with! Texting and typing is not as easy now that I have to be careful to not to let my nails click another button than my fingers are. The main focus of the nail is probably the finish rather than the length because matte nails aren't too common. However, they have been around for a while and I used to have a matte top coat but then I lost it a few months ago. I ended up repurchasing the NYC Mattifying Top Coat last weekend along with the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polish in Pat on the Black. I was looking for a deep burgundy but I ended up finding Pat on the Black on a display which is more of a deep plum (almost black) than burgundy and I liked it anyway so I bought it instead! Matte nails will always be a favorite of mine and there's just something about them that makes them nicer than glossy nails, well at least in my opinion! 
       Simple gold rings have always been a staple accessory of mine but I just recently started gaining an interest in midi rings. Ever since they became popular I've thought they were so cute and looked great with a nice manicure but I never cared enough to try out the trend myself. But then I finally purchased my first midi ring (middle finger) around two weeks ago and I've been obsessed ever since! I ended up getting more when I went to Forever 21 and saw that a pack of eight rings was only five bucks, does it even get any better than that!? It came with four knuckle rings, one regular ring, and three thumb rings. For a while I stopped liking Forever 21 just because of the quality of their clothes but I've always liked their jewelry and how reasonable it is for cute little necklaces and rings. Even though I still liked their jewelry, the fact that I didn't like their clothes for a while stopped me from shopping there for anything. After finding those rings I think I've changed my mind about them again! 
       

Graphic Liner and Spiky Lashes

           This was a pretty simple look to do and really didn't take much time at all. I am not really sure what inspired me to do a graphic liner look at the time but I'm sure it had something to do with me seeing a cool look that just consisted of artistic eye liner that made me want to do something like this. Usually that's the case with a lot of the makeup looks I do, I just see a makeup look and it inspires me to try something similar. Is that extremely uncreative of me? Probably, but I like challenging myself by trying out makeup looks I've seen done by professionals! This look really doesn't take much but a small eye liner brush and a half closed eye. You can't have folds on your eye while doing the liner in the crease or else it will come out really messy and that's only fixable if you're blending it out and for this look it was all about precision! All I did was line my eye normally, then I drew the line on my crease following the curve of my eye and slowly started thickening the line, then I just created the thick line on the outer corner connecting the liner in my crease to the liner on my lash line. Now on my bottom lash line I just drew a line starting from the middle of my eye to the outer edge and brought a line down that pretty much looks like a painted on eye lash to the end just so the top and bottom eyeliner was balanced. And I just thought some spiky lashes worked better than the more natural or wispy lashes because the eye liner was so pointed and precise that the lashes should be too. Does that make any sense? I think you guys get what I mean.. hopefully. Others may have paired a bright pink or some sort of bright lipstick with this eye but I chose a nude because I like how almost natural the makeup looks even though it's not natural at all!

Purple Cut Crease Eye

          I'm back! I hadn't even realized I neglected my blog for so long till I noticed the last post I put up dates back to a year ago! Well I know I keep saying I'll start posting more often and then I disappear for another 6 months and then reappear again with the same statement but this time I mean it, I'm here to stay. I really lost the interest to keep up with my blog but I kept my interest in makeup still. Instead of posting makeup looks to my blog I just posted them on Instagram so the only people seeing them were my classmates whom probably don't even care to see my makeup looks as much as my followers do. I decided to start putting up some previous looks I have done and haven't published onto her because 1. It'll give me a head start with a few makeup looks already done and 2. I've done some makeup looks that are BY FAR much better than anything I've posted here in the past. You'll see the looks progress as I post them in order of which I did first and I hope you all enjoy seeing them! I also have changed a couple things about my blog 1. The name 2. The layout (which may continue to change as I tweak it till I'm satisfied with the look) and 3. I have a job! The job part has nothing to do with my blog but I thought I should just update you all on some thing about me as well. If you're wondering about the name of the blog then the only explanation I have is that sunflowers are my favorite flower and for some odd reason I like to include them in my name for social media and now my blog.
       Okay so even though I've already said enough I still have some explaining to do about this very purple look I did I believe around 7 months ago. Basically I was really mesmerized by the look of a cut crease at the time but it seemed nearly impossible to me that I could achieve it. Well, I tried it for the first time here and I have to say I don't think I did too bad but I definitely have some improving to do. This is a pretty bold look and the purple really does bring out my brown eyes, it isn't my favorite look that I've done but since it was my first shot at a cut crease I thought I should publish it for you all. Oh and a lot of the looks I have done are only on one eye for my own convenience(laziness) but there is one with a full face too. Hope you like it! And don't worry, this isn't the last of me!

White & Teal Nail Art (Polka Dots & Rhinestones)

For New Years Eve I had decided I wanted to do something a little different than just a basic polish. I had seen different pictures that inspired me but the end result did not look at all like what I had anticipated. My nails were more of a St. Patrick's Day color combo than New Years color combo, at least in my opinion. I didn't necessarily like it but I wanted to use a glitter polish so I went for the Sinful Colors teal glitter polish I had and I do like the glitter polish itself but not so much the white and polka dots. I feel like it looks a bit kiddish, like something a little girl would want but I do think it's kinda cute. I had done diagonal polka dots to tie in each nail with the teal glitter ring finger because I thought that all the white nails and one glitter finger didn't look that good. After I did the polka dots, I remembered how I had nail rhinestones that I had gotten so long ago so I put on a rhinestone that was the same color as the polka dots which were the green rhinestones. As a base for the glitter polish I used a gunmetal shade so it didn't look too blue.

Skull Top, Denim Jacket, & Studded Wedge Sneakers

       So I decided since I'm not on top of my makeup video game as much as I've wanted, I'm resorting to being more active on my blog posts. I have been so MIA and keep saying I'll stop and be continuous with uploads and what not but I procrastinate so much on videos because I am just so lazy. These fashion posts are pretty easy because I just do my daily routine; get beautified & dressed. The only extra I have to do is drag my sister with me just down the street to shoot some pictures and for some reason that's easier for me than making a video at home. But don't worry, I plan on shooting a video tomorrow so my videos are still coming.
      Anyways, so I had been wanting a pair of wedged sneakers for some time now but I was afraid to get a pair because no one at my school wore them and I had never seen anyone out and around wearing them but I decided to look past that and just get them because I loved them so much. Basically, this outfit was worked out around the shoes. I owned every piece already except for the denim jacket, I actually bought that specifically to finish off the outfit because I didn't like how my leather jackets looked with it and I didn't own any jean jackets for myself. I used to hate denim jackets but this is the one I approved of for myself to wear. I am so in love with the shoes and they are so comfortable since they are low wedges. These are the only shoes with a height that I will wear out on a daily basis. You will never see me in a pair of wedges or pumps because I just feel weird wearing them out, I'll only wear them for weddings or dances. But that's off topic, so back to the shoes. These will probably reappear in future fashion posts because I'm dieing to find other outfits to wear them with. They're not one hit wonders.

Pink Champagne, Purple & Navy Smoky Eye Look

For this look I decided to go for a glittery pink, purple, and bluish smoky eye. For the face I decided to keep it natural with a bit of bronzer, a peach bronzer, and a nude lipstick. I love pink, purple, and blue so I enjoyed putting them into an eye look. This look contains some colors people normally wouldn’t use everyday but it really isn’t that dramatic of a look compared to most smoky eyes. I think this is a great eye look if you want to have some fun with makeup but not go too out there with it. You could always substitute the dark purple and dark blue for lighter shades of each and take out the liner on the bottom lash line for less drama if you wanted. Personally, I like the look how it is (mainly because if I didn’t, I would’ve done it differently of course). Hopefully, you guys like this one!

Champagne and Teal Smoky Cat Eye Look

 

So I decided to make up my own look for the first time because I hadn’t seen any new makeup looks I cared to recreate. I also didn’t do an intro for this video or an ending because well... I forgot :p But I doubt those are really important for a video anyways and I just might not add them in on purpose for future videos because it saves time! Who really cares for intros anyways? But back to the look! The eyes were a champagne on the lid, a deep glittery teal on the outer portion (Looks black in the video & pictures but I assure you in person it looks like a deep teal), winged liner in the outer corner and inner corner, black rimmed eyes, and spiky fake lashes. For the face, it was just a natural mauve shade and for the lips it was glossy nude pink lips. I hope you enjoy!

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Fairest Nude

Some time ago I purchased the L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Fairest Nude. From the pictures it looks like it'd be a deeper natural lip color but it's actually a natural light pink. The finish is a creme finish with some nice shine and because it's a creme finish it is pretty moisturizing which is nice and it is also fairly opaque. The lasting power is good, you only have to reapply it every few hours. This lipstick runs around $6.00 which isn't too bad and you could probably get it for even cheaper because L'Oreal always has different coupons in the paper or online so look out for that. The smell of this lipstick isn't really my favorite.. It almost smells like roses and that's really not a smell I'm a fan of. I'd rather it smell like vanilla or something fruity because those are actually enjoyable smells! It reminds me of my grandmas perfume but that's just me. Now for the packaging it's just gold all over which once again reminds me of my grandma for some reason, it really isn't the nicest packaging in my opinion but that really isn't important. This is a really nice everyday lip color for lighter skin tones but if you are a bit darker, it could be a really nice nude. Overall I'd give this lipstick an 8/10 because it's a really nice lipstick but the smell and packaging is not the best.

Rita Ora "How We Do (Party)" Inspired Makeup Look

For this look I decided to recreate Rita Ora’s look in her music video for her song “How We Do (Party)”. I just discovered her and her music and I love her now! She always has gorgeous, fun makeup and I can’t wait to recreate more looks of hers. But for this look she had a bronzy eye, electric purple liner, natural skin and shimmery nude glossy lips. Another look she had in the video had the same eyes but pinker cheeks and red lips. Personally, I thought this look would be more practical to do which is why I went for it but I thought she pulled off the red lip with the look just as good.
